- Stay fit, be healthy. Your body is your brain's only mode of transportation about the physical realm. Your body and brain have a symbiotic relationship. Don't overuse one in attempt to compensate for the other.
- Educate yourself. Education opens new worlds of thought or can correct previously false ways of thought, which leads me to...
- Follow the Socratic method. Socrates is famous for his method of truth-seeking. In short, be open minded, consider new thoughts and always be open to the idea that something you previously thought was true is false. Avoid confirmation bias; searching for evidence that confirms your hypothesis. If you are indeed searching for truth, look for evidence that disproves your hypothesis and modify your beliefs to be as accurate as possible. Be open minded and open to change.
- Avoid Consumerism & Capitalism. Current western society promotes values consumption. The primary way our value is measured is by how much we consume and Capitalism promotes the easiest way to deliver a product to the consumer, almost always including unbelievable detrimental effects to our planet. (Statistic: 1% of things consumed are still in use 6 months later. 99% are discarded or otherwise disposed of. Source: storyofstuff.org).
- Don't conform to anonymity. Help people in distress, offer what you can to people who need it.
- Be non-competitive and introverted. Selfishness, self centeredness, and ego-centrism lie at the heart of competition. The need to prove you are in fact better than someone else only proves that you can't evaluate you own self-worth independently (and accurately) and rely on other people to determine your self-worth.
